Street Races are side missions in The Simpsons: Hit& Run. Milhouse Van Houten, Nelson Muntz, and Ralph Wiggum are the hosts. The trio host the races for Patty and Selma, who appear after the races have been won, excluding Level 7. The trio are easy to find on the map as they have a pair of. The Simpsons: Hit & Run Cheats for PlayStation 2. I can't remember what car you get for completing all races on level 2, but I know that you get a car. I've unlocked it myself. Mmmmm.. Walkthrough: Level 1

Level 5 | Level 6 | Level 7 |
Starting the level out, you will have to listen to what Bart has to say to get around the town. It is all very basic information, overall, and Bart even admits to this. After you through with the easy tutorial that varies depending which platform you are playing the game on.
Tutorial Mission
Walk over to Marge and speak with her to start the mission. You will have to go to the Kwik-E Mart and purchase some ice cream and cola. Go to the driveway and hop into the Family Vehicle. You will want to pull out left, and turn right. Follow the path, and make the right turn when needed.

At the intersection, you will notice the Kwik-E Mart on the right . Drive over near the glowing blue circle to complete the task. Hop out of the vehicle, and go inside of the store by pressing the same button that you use to get in and out of vehicles. Once inside, go talk to Apu. This will bring up your purchase towards the back of the room. Walk over and you will automatically pick it up, completing the mission.
S-M-R-T
Return to the Family Vehicle outside of the Kwik E-Mart (assuming you are going to the first mission from the tutorial mission), and back out of the parking lot. Follow the green arrows to the left to get back to the house. Walk over to Marge and talk to her, then hop inside of the Family Vehicle again after you pick up the science project on the front lawn.

Follow the green arrows to the left to get back to the house. Walk over to Marge and talk to her, then hop inside of the Family Vehicle again after you pick up the science project on the front lawn.
Drive out of the driveway, and follow the same path that you took to reach the Kwik-E Mart. You will soon be prompted to race to the school! Principal Skinner is racing you to reach the school first, so you will have to zoom ahead of him. Remember to lie off of the acceleration when making turns, as the vehicles handle slightly like real life vehicles.
Cut across two lawns at the start to get on his side. If there is a vehicle near him, try to cut him off into the path of the traffic. If this does not work, stay patient. Once you reach the Kwik-E Mart, turn right and drive up the ladder on the back of the Fire Truck to easily steal the lead.
Follow this, and you will have two options: Straight, or right. Definitely take straight, and try to cut off Principal Skinner once more. Stay towards the center, and make your turn to the right after the two-sided path with the shrubs in the center. Follow the green arrows, and Principal Skinner will crash through a window on the left. Edge around the corner to the right to gain the advantage.
Roll into the blue circle icon to obtain the win over Principal Skinner. With the clock off, you can hop out of the vehicle and go inside of the school building. Walk to the right and talk to Lisa. This will complete the mission. You can check out the new costumes to the right, where the '$' mark is floating.
You should now be able to purchase two new vehicles: the Duff Truck, and the Black Van. You can purchase them from a man across the street from Cletus (right after bridge to the trailer park area).
Petty Theft Homer
From the school, just follow the familiar path back from where you came from by making a few memorable turns while following the green arrows. Once you arrive, walk into the house, and talk to Marge. It seems as if Ned Flanders has some possessions of his stolen, and Homer has taken them. Go talk to Ned, and then hop into your vehicle.

It seems as if Ned Flanders has some possessions of his stolen, and Homer has taken them. Go talk to Ned, and then hop into your vehicle.
Pay close attention to your map. The blue dots indicate where the items are. Move to the right of Ned's house, across the street and collect the Tux on the front lawn of one of the locals. Fir every item you collect, your time limit increases. Follow this road, and make the right turn. Keep following the path and you will find a Lawn Mower on another lawn.
After this, you will need to go talk to Barney about the Ice Cooler. He is located at the gas station near the trailer park part of town, so continue following this road. It is across the street from the upcoming Krusty Burger. Stop the vehicle near the gas station, and get out. Talk to Barney, and he will fork over the Ice Cooler after revealing something that Flanders will definitely not appreciate.
Collect the Ice Cooler, and hop back into the vehicle. Drive back towards the neighborhood by backtracking from where you came from. At the end of the curve in the right lane of the road lies a Chair, so collect it. Now it is time to collect the 'stupid' Flanders Family Portrait. Follow the path, as usual, and go through the driveway of the land blue house dead ahead. You will collect the Family Portrait.
Now all we need is Rod's Inhaler, and it is back at the Kwik-E Mart. Back up from the driveway, and follow the green arrows. You will soon come up on the Kwik-E Mart, so hop out of your vehicle after you park it in the parking lot, and go to the back of the truck.
There is a button on the back here, so press it. This will lift the boxes attached to the back. Climb up to the top of the truck, and collect Rod's Inhaler. Jump down from the top of the truck, and hop back into your vehicle. Burn rubber out of the parking lot, and backtrack to the neighborhood. Go by Flanders house, and get out of the vehicle. Talk to him to complete the mission.
Office Spaced
Walk on over to the Simpsons' house, and enter the door. Talk to Marge about Smithers and his evaluation with Homer today. Homer panics, and you must go find Lenny. You must go to the Krusty Burger, which is across the street from where you found Barney at in the last mission.
Walk on over to the Simpsons' house, and enter the door. Talk to Marge about Smithers and his evaluation with Homer today. Homer panics, and you must go find Lenny. You must go to the Krusty Burger, which is across the street from where you found Barney at in the last mission.
Follow the path to the right of the Simpsons' home, and take out any poles or stop signs along the way, as you will have to collect 150 coins for an upcoming purchase to carry on with the story. Simpsons hit and run metacritic. Get out of the vehicle as you reach the Krusty Burger, and talk to Lenny.
Walk across the street to where Barney is, and purchase the Snow Plow (Plow King) from him. You will now have to hop into the Plow King, and chase down Smithers. He is exiting the Kwik-E Mart, so you will want to catch him on the way out. Follow the path that you came from, and go past your house. Keep following the path, and you will eventually come up on the Kwik-E Mart.
Along the way to Smithers, position yourself along the left side of the road, and you will hit Smithers' vehicle head on. Try ramming into him a few times to get the best amount of health withdrawn before he can align himself on the straight path. Once he is back on his merry way, get in front of his vehicle and cut Smithers off. If in front of the vehicle correctly, he will continue ramming into the side of your vehicle, which takes away tiny chunks of his health. If you play this right, and react to the way that he drives, you can stay in front of his vehicle and allow him to take away all of the health to his vehicle.
If you are having trouble with this strategy, try to cut him off so that he will run into a building, parked car, what have you.. Now, while he is trying to escape, back up far away, and hit the acceleration to ram into him. This takes down a decent chunk of health.
Blind Big Brother
Go over to Homer's workstation inside of the Power Plant. Once inside, Homer will go on a rampage regarding the security cameras. Walk outside of the workstation, and a timer will begin set at 3 minutes and 30 seconds (3:30). Destroy the Power Coupling (1) to the left of the doorway, and begin walking to the left from here.

Walk outside of the workstation, and a timer will begin set at 3 minutes and 30 seconds (3:30). Destroy the Power Coupling (1) to the left of the doorway, and begin walking to the left from here.
There will be a button glowing pink that you must press to lower a walkway. Once on the walkway, it will take you up towards the top of the area, so step off to the left. Destroy the Power Coupling here (2), and 7 more remain. Await the arrival of another walkway to the left, and hop on once it arrives. Step off to the left up here, and destroy the Power Coupling (3).
Drop down to the left, and backtrack to the left via the scaffold that is back towards the screen. There is another Power Coupling in the center, so smash it up (4). From here, go back along the left, and walk onto the automatic walkway here. It will take the even higher, so step off once you arrive to your destination.
There is a trap electric floor in the corner, so double jump to get across it and to the left . Break up the Power Coupling (5). Step onto the platform to the left, and pressing the glowing pink button to activate the platform. It will take you to the far left. Walk off, and destroy the Power Coupling here (6).
Walk down the slanted walkway, and to the left. Follow this path until you see another Power Coupling, which you should destroy (7). Step onto the automatic platform, and press the glowing pink button. Stay on the platform until it goes left, and back to the right. Step off where you came from. This is for in case you fall, you have a shortcut.
You will have to jump across the dual falling platforms in the background. You will begin double jumping once they have fallen for around half a second. By the time you land, they will be together (or nearly together), so double jump as soon as you touch them. Destroy the Power Coupling on this side (8). You can also reach this side easily by a steam stack on the side across from Homer's workstation.
Simpsons Hit And Run Game
Only one more to go. This one is very simple; just go to the right from the eighth Power Coupling, and make a left turn. It will be sitting there, so smash it up. Afterwards, you will have to go back to your workstation to complete the mission. Before you do, you can hop up onto the steam stack to the right and boost up to a platform that will ride to the top of the building. Hop across three fans (the platforms are counted as circular, not just the blades), and you can find a Collector Card (Carbon Rod).
Flowers By Irene
Before going to the mission, get a sturdy vehicle like the Plow King or Pickup Truck. Now, go to the Simpsons household, and enter the place. Sit down to watch some TV and Homer will become paranoid. Walk outside, and quickly hop into a vehicle. Your mission is to follow the Black Van, but win in a race or anything complex. Just follow it. It will round the corner to the left, and cut over to the right. It will now follow the path to the slums, so chase the vehicle over the bridge.

It will now cut through the trailer park shortcut, so follow it. Remember to stay alongside of the left portion of the trailer park. Follow it by getting closer via the shortcut in between the trees and the fence. Go through the barn shortcut as it will, and slowly into the Power Plant.
Once inside of the Power Plant, it will go through the shortcut on the left side. Follow it through the tunnels, then the tomb room. Soon after this, you will be out in the open once again. Follow the Black Van as it moves forward, and you will complete the mission.
Bonestorm Storm
Visit the Grocery Store by following the green arrows on the ground past the gas station, over the half-drawn bridge, and to the location. Hop out of the vehicle and talk to Marge regarding the latest deadly video game on the market, Bonestorm. You will have to ram into the delivery truck to make the video games fall out of the back of it.

The general strategy for this mission is simple: Follow the delivery truck (which is coming from the right, where you can ram into it from the side) as fast as you can, and cut it off the hard way by ramming into it. Even bumper bumping it will do the job. You will receive a notice once a package drops from the back of the vehicle. You must collect the fallen package to continue with the mission.
As always, we will want to be less destructive towards the city on this mission, as we definitely do not need the publicity from the Hit & Run police squad. Try to ram into the vehicle as it turns. After you collect all 10 packages, drive back to the Simpsons household to complete the mission.
The Fat And The Furious
For this mission, you will want to drive out to the Power Plant after you select the Electaurus (you should have unlocked it by now, if not, take the Family Vehicle instead). Pull up, and hop out of your vehicle. Walk over to Carl and have a word with him. Afterwards, you will have to jump into your vehicle and speed off in a race against Smithers!

Pull up, and hop out of your vehicle. Walk over to Carl and have a word with him. Afterwards, you will have to jump into your vehicle and speed off in a race against Smithers!
Follow the path as you speed out of the parking lot. Once you come up on the barn, enter the off-colored gate and go through the farm to gain speed on Smithers. Once you exit the farm, turn right and speed up the ramp to drive completely over the tire-burning lot. This will give you a great advantage over Smithers.
Make a hard right to cut through the trailer park to gain even more speed on Smithers. He should be in the dust by now. Go across the bridge, and follow the path that you would normally take to the Kwik-E Mart. Remember to cut across the lawns and such along the way, as this saves a lot of time.
Follow the path to the Kwik-E Mart, and go up the Fire Truck's ladder on the right. After you make the right, then straight path, you can get the edge by going up on the left and busting through the window. There will be a path that you can drive up along the right to gain time, and then jump over the half-drawn bridge.
Jumping over the bridge will also heal your vehicle up. There will be a few twists and sharp turns here, so ride the side of them to pretty much claim your victory at this point. When you will reach the finish line, jump out and have a chat with Mr. Burns about the Black Vans.
This Old Shanty (Bonus Mission)
You can find Cletus at the beginning of the slums, directly in front of where you cross the bridge. Take the Plow King (or the Electaurus, if you have unlocked it from the three Race victories), and go talk to him. You will need to collect five Cardboard Tubes, and pluck the Tomacco Harvest. Start off with the Cardboard Tubes by going towards the bridge again, and roll off to the right side, then back to the road to collect the first one (1).

Go across the bridge, and to the right once again to collect the next Cardboard Tube (2). Make a left here, and follow the path. After you round the turn to the right, ride up on the sidewalk and lawns to the left to collect the Cardboard Tube (3). You will have to perform the same movements up ahead to collect the fourth (4).
Follow the path, and drive up onto Flanders' lawn to collect the last Cardboard Tube (5). Whip a U-Turn and drive back to the slums once again. After you cross the bridge, go right slightly, and cut through the trailer park. Hug the left side, as it can be dangerous to your vehicle on the right.
Once you get out of the trailer park area, you will have to hold left slightly, and drive in between the trees and the fencing. Hug left, and cut through the barn area. Once you land, make a U-Turn and get out of the vehicle. Go into the Tomacco field and collect the 12 Tomaccos from the field after zooming out on the camera angle.
Hop back into your vehicle, and begin driving over to the right where there is a field. There is a gate, where the color is different. Drive through here for a shortcut, and turn right slightly. Go up the hill leading through the tire-burning field, and you will jump clean over it. Follow the path here to Cletus's house. Hop out of your vehicle, and chat with him. You've now unlocked his Pickup Truck for use.
Race 1: Time Trial
This has to be the easiest of the three races in the first level. In the Trailer Park, you can find Milhouse. After chatting with him, you will have to race five easy laps around the trailer park. This is not as bad as you may think. Try taking the Family Vehicle in, as it is fairly decent in these races.

Starting the race off, you will want to hit the acceleration, and E-Brake to drift along the right. This should make a 180-degree turn while moving in the right direction. Go forward through the trailer park, and hug the left side a bit so you do not run into anything along the right. At the end of the trailer park, you will have to perform another drifting turn to the right, exactly as you did the first time. You must repeat this four more times to complete the race.
Race 2: Circuit Race
In the rich part of town (the alternate exit to the Power Plant), search for a Gasoline Station. Once you reach there, talk to Nelson. After a funny conversation, you will have to race in the circuit. I prefer using the Family Vehicle, however, down the block from the gas station is a parked Honor Roller, much like the one that is constantly in first during this race. It will blow up easily, however, so the choice is yours.

From the start of the race, cut across the lawn and dart towards the Van. Cut it off, and catch another big break by semi-turning rather than a full-fledged hard way turn to the right to gain some speed on the Honor Roller. The rest of this course should be smooth sailing until the 180-degree hard way turn. Here, you will have to E-Brake and turn around fast, Vin Diesel-style. If this doesn't work out, let off of the acceleration, and crash softly into the side of the rail, which can also slow the Honor Roller down.
On the way back around, try not to hit the solid tree, since it can royally mess you up. Other than that, just keep these tips in mind for all three tracks. One last alternative strategy is to try to cut the Honor Roller off very early to mess up his/her time without messing with yours. This is tricky, but possible. Remember, you do not have to actually touch the checkpoints, just get near them. Use this to your advantage.
Race 3: Checkpoint Race
Outside of the First Church of Springfield (near the Springfield Elementary School), you will notice Ralph, our favorite little nitwit. Ralph is holding a racing contest, and it is a pain. You will want to be driving the Family Vehicle, or you can start the contest, cancel the mission, and take the futuristic Honor Roller. The body on the Honor Roller is terrible, though, and you will likely explode after a few dings.

Cut over the lawn on the left to get an early edge on the school bus. Next up is the Van, which you can simply pass up eventually without much trouble. While the Honor Roller is turning to the right, keep going straight and you will gain a slight bit of speed on the Honor Roller. Hit the checkpoint, and go through the shortcut on the left side of the building.
Turn left after you get through with the shortcut, and gain added time over the Honor Roller by riding up on the lawns to hug the edge of the path. Go through the park on the right after the long turn, and cut through all of the lawns that you see. You will have to follow the path, and eventually reach the bridge leading to the trailer trash part of town. Once over here, make your fast right left, and take the shortcut through the trailer parks.
Hug the left when going through here, as the path shifts to the right slightly. Cut in between the trees and the tire burning lot to gain more time, and roll out on the left. Hit the checkpoint and go through the barn, which is another shortcut. After the barn shortcut, you will have to follow the path as you normally would. If you Honor Roller gets close, cut him off and roll into the checkpoint for the victory. This will unlock the Electaurus for use.

14: From the rooftop mentioned in the last paragraph, you will want to double jump over to the tiny platforms sticking out of the school's backside of the building. Jump across these, and to the right side of the roof. Avoid the two steam stacks, and attack the Wasp Camera on the right side of the rooftop.
15: On the roof of the Kwik-E Mart (Paul & Linda McCartney's Garden). To reach it, double jump onto the roof of the Duff Truck, and jump onto the steam stack on the top of the Duff Truck. This will launch you onto the rooftop. Destroy the Wasp Camera.
16: Next to the Kwik-E Mart (left), there is a billboard. Jump onto it, and jump to the rooftop in back of it. From here, jump onto the steam stack, and over to the 'V' shaped rooftop. Destroy the Wasp Camera here.
17: On the rooftop of the building next to the giant 'Big Boy' donut statue floats another Wasp Camera. On the back of the building is a steam stack where you can reach the top of the building to kill the Wasp Camera.
18: On the farm shortcut, beside the barn, near the haystacks.
19: Take the Surveillance Van and park near the right side of the golden bridge near the slums, and look to the side near the water to find a set of steps leading up the bridge. Climb them, and destroy the Wasp Camera at the top.
20: From the 19th Wasp Camera, walk across to the other side of the bridge via the 'X' shaped platforms, and the Wasp Camera should appear in the center. Destroy it.

To do: See if there's anything else missing here. |
This article is a work in progress. ..Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes. |
If The Simpsons and Grand Theft Auto had a love child, the result would most likely be The Simpsons: Hit & Run. Surprisingly, the end result is a pretty solid clone and what many consider to be the best Simpsons game. Not only that, but there's a lot of interesting unused content lurking inside, and we're not kidding when we say a lot.
I wish I had a dog with a saddle.

Unused Levels
To do: List that data. Also, replace mission data from Levels 2, 3, 5, or 6 with this one to see at least what does. |
Inside the PC version's 'scriptsmissions' directory are two folders labeled level08 and level09, suggesting that the game had planned to have a total of nine levels instead of seven, but the eighth and ninth level didn't make the cut for unknown reasons. It might have been a placeholder.
The game makes another reference to the eighth cut level in 'artmissions', where a folder labeled level08 can be found. However, unlike the script folder, there are two files inside this folder, though these only seem to contain position data for an unfinished mission. Unlike level08, there is no art folder for level09.
Unused Areas
Inside Burns' Mansion in Level 1
Inside the Mansion.
It is possible to get into the front garden and the interior of Mr. Burns' mansion in Level 1, but it requires skill. First, have the jump code activated and with a car big enough to fit through the secret 'entrance' in the Nuclear Power Plant. When you have got in and made it to the doors, they will be closed. You can still get in by using the jump code to get in through the walls. The mansion has nearly the exact same appearance as it does in Level 4, except the gag from Level 4 is missing. In addition, the furniture is missing.
Once you are in, it is nearly impossible to get out: you have to jump the car high enough to get out of the mansion from the garden. If you attempt to get out of the mansion through the front yard, you will respawn in the Nuclear Power Plant.
Unused Bonus Track
Homer on the bonus track.
Present in the game's files is an oval-shaped Springfield 500 track that takes place in a stadium. Being in a mostly complete state, it may have been an early concept or just cut because it was probably considered too short. The track itself resembles the racing track from the episode 'Alone Again, Natura-Diddily'. Although there are various ways to access it, the fastest and easiest way is to replace l1i00.p3d in the art folder with b00.p3d.
Drive to the school in Level 1, everything but some parts of the scenery and the bonus track in the distance will be invisible. Now you can drive to the bonus track. It is very easy to crash it this way, but again, this is the easiest way to access the track.
testlevelb02l
The Test Level
An unused monochrome test model for a bonus track map, found in the art folder. It is most likely left in the game as a placeholder for a test map. It does not appear to be based on any of the seven present bonus tracks, as it features several holes, ramps, and bumps that would make it appropriate for an off-road track.
testlevelb02st
The Second Test Level
A similarly titled test model to testlevelb02l also found in the art folder, albeit with a more flat terrain, and having a stop sign wall texture, presumably a placeholder for actual racing walls. Much like testlevelb02l, it is not based on any present bonus track, and is most likely a placeholder.
Past the Bridge in Level 7
The 939 Area, Accessed using cheats
In Level 7, the 939 area of Evergreen Terrace is fenced off from both sides of the map (from the Power Plant, a door barricade is in place, and from the school, the bridge is broken and covered by spotlights and military installation), but with the cheat codes that allow cars to jump by honking the horn and gain invincibility, the player can get past the school bridge barrier and go to the bridge. Any car will work, but the RC Car is recommended, as it is the easiest to fit. The bridge has weird collision - The walls or watchtower are not solid.
Simpsons hit and run ps2 iso. 'Alternate Timing Method' will show your time with loads.
After the layer manages to get past the bridge, one can go to the other side, however, the area is incomplete and isn't solid. The houses look a bit different, as they are missing their walls and gates, and there are two floating 'Springfield Gasoline' signs where the gas station is supposed to be. However, if you manage to get to the roof of the non-solid house that replaced the ramp going beyond and respawning and going back, the jump camera enables. Interestingly, there are spawn points from the other side of the blockades along with solid ground which can be driven on, making it easier for the player to get to the other side of the bridge. This shows that this area could be accessed legitimately at one point.
In 2017, a former Radical Entertainment designer confirmed on the Donut Team forum that the area was cut to make workload more manageable for artists working on the level.

Inside the Nuclear Plant in Level 7
Behind the mysterious door. Spooky!
Just like the bridge, the Nuclear Plant in Level 7 is blocked off, but is possible to get past with the same cheats. This time, any car can work always. However, after that, the area is just nothing. The mini-map continues like it did in Level 1 and 4, but after where the hall is supposed to open up, the mini-map shows the end, but the sound that is heard in the plant in Levels 1 and 4 plays. However, the fun doesn't stop there! If one goes further, the sound that plays in the room where nuclear waste from the pipes and into the nuclear lake plays, and if one goes even further, they will eventually hear the unused Level 7 version of the Stonecutters' Tunnel theme.
Unused Gags
In the files, by using text editing programs, the player can find three unused gags all meant for Evergreen Terrace (Levels 1, 4 and 7) and one for the Springfield Squidport (levels 3 and 6). These gags do not have a set place for where they appear, or have been commented out, making them unused. Setting a place for them in the game will allow them to spawn.
- There was originally supposed to be a red and blue merry-go-round that was intended for both the playground near the Springfield Elementary School and in Evergreen Terrace, but the gag was cut for unknown reasons. When the player clicks on the gag, it would spin around.
- Near the Tomacco field, there was supposed to be a flock of crows that flew away if the player got near them. The animation is glitched and incomplete, with the crows left hovering in the air afterwards, which is possibly why it got cut.
- In the Android's Dungeon, there was supposed to be a doll that blew up. It would produce an inflating and deflating sound when activated. However, the doll has no model and it is completely invisible, but it still produces sounds.
- There was supposed to be a bat gag for Level 7 which would've functioned like Level 1 and 4's crow gag.
- At the Planet Hype, there was supposed to be a gag for Level 3 where Moleman was stuck in his pink car. The gag can be seen on a picture in the scrapbook for Level 3. However, the gag's graphics itself appears to have been deleted from the game. In level.mfk, alongside with another gags, line «**//moleman in cadillac**» with it's settings has been found.
(Source: level.mfk files)
Misplaced Objects
By using cheats or mods to go out-of-bounds in the level maps, the player can see some unused objects that are either erroneously misplaced or some leftovers that seemed to be from earlier in development.
In Level 1, there are two portraits that appear to be Simpson-styled versions of the painting 'American Gothic'. These were most likely intended for an earlier revision of the Stonecutter's Tunnel.
In Level 1, Level 4, and Level 7, there is a washing machine found. This is most likely a mis-spawn, as the washing machines are actually meant to appear outside Muntz's House. Strangely, there is a cow's head placed next to the washing machine in Level 1.
E3 Levels and Missions
To do: See if it's possible to swap the Level data for the E3 demo with that of the final one and check if the Easycop AI used anywhere else |
The game has a bunch of unused level scripts that are intended for an E3 demo.
E3 Rewards
Inside the 'missions' folder, there is an E3 version of the rewards.mfk file, named e3rewards.mfk. The rewards.mfk file is what tells the game how the player unlocks certain vehicles/clothes. Replacing it with the final game's file crashes the game, but by simply viewing the file in a text editor we can see quite a number of differences:
- Both the Kremlin and Moe's Sedan are for sale from Gil in Level 1, instead of the Duff Truck and the Surveillance Van
- Every vehicle for sale in Level 1 is priced at 40 coins, Level 2 & 7's are 25 coins and Level 3, 4, 5 & 6's are 10 coins.
- Homer's 'Scuzzy' outfit is for sale in Level 1
- Bart's default car in level 2 is the Lil Bandit
- Mr Plow is now the reward for beating all of the street races in Level 2, and Homer now sells the Family Sedan
- Otto's School Bus, Malibu Stacy Car, Duff Truck and Book Burning Mobile are all sold by Gil in Level 2
- Bart's 'Bartman' outfit is for sale in Level 2
- In Level 3, the Book Burning Mobile is the Street Race prize, and also sold by Gil
- In Level 4, The Police Car is for sale instead of the Clown Car. Interestingly, the Police Car is actually still in the final rewards.mfk file, just commented out using '//'
- The Donut Truck and Book Burning Mobile are both for sale in Levels 4, 5 & 6.
- Bart's 'Bartman' outfit is still for sale in Level 6, despite being in Level 2 as well.
- The Hovercar is the default car for Level 7, while the 70's Sports Car is the Street Race reward.
- Homer's 'Muumuu' outfit replaces the 'Scuzzy' outfit and the 'Chosen One' outfit replaces the 'Evil' outfit.
- The Clown Car is being sold by one of the Zombies, and the Kremlin and Canyonero are being sold by Gil
E3 Level.mfk
Within the Level 2 folder there is an E3 variation of the level.mfk file. It is almost identical to the final game, with a few minor changes:
- It only loads two missions, the E3 version of Better than Beef, and Detention Deficit Disorder.
- Homer's electrocuted model is loaded, presumably by mistake.
- The Lil Bandit is loaded as the default vehicle, however both the Red Ferrini and Honor Roller have scripts to be loaded instead, both being commented out using '//'
E3 Leveli.mfk
Also within the Level 2 folder, there is an E3 variation of the leveli.mfk file. Again, there isn't much different from the final game:
- The Lil Bandit is loaded as the default vehicle
- Bonus Mission and Street Race Npcs have no dialog
- Various pedestrians in certain areas were changed
E3 Better Than Beef
Simpsons Hit And Run Level 2 Races 2018
Within the Level 2 folder, not only is there an E3 version of Level 2, but there's also an unused version of the mission Better Than Beef that was meant for E3. The mission itself is close to that of the final, and can be played by replacing m5i.mfk with the e3m1i.mfk file inside the Level 2 folder, and then editing the first line with a text editing program to prevent the game from crashing during loading from:
Download Simpsons Hit And Run
to
The level itself has several differences. First, you're given more time in this version, Apu uses a different AI (Easycop.con in the scriptscarspursuit folder), and 'Curious Curator' doesn't play when Apu appears. You also have to talk to Cletus after arriving at the Krusty Burger. In the final, the conversation happens automatically.
E3 Rigor Motors
Like Level 2, Level 7 also has a file that appears to be an E3 Rigor Motors (judging by the positions mentioned in the file) that was used for a similar or the same demo. However, unlike the early Better Than Beef, the mission script is incomplete, and all that remains is a 'dummy' objective that's obviously meant for testing, so there isn't anything left.

Collision Debug
By using a cheat code in the in-game options menu, one can toggle a debugging tool for collision. The area where the player's character or car is marked red, while the areas that aren't are white. It continuously changes as you drive along, the areas shown being the closest to you.
To access this in the GameCube and Xbox versions, head to the Options menu, hold L + R, and press B, A, B, Y. To access this in the PlayStation 2 version, head to the Options menu, hold L1 + R1, and press ○, ✕, ○, △.
Fair warning: on original hardware, this function is known to cause slowdowns.

Unused Music
fe_trans
These three trumpet tracks that get slightly higher in key go unused. The only logical place where they could have been used are after completing the Street Races, since there are exactly three races in each level, but there is normally silence at the end of each Street Race when the character celebrates. The only cue that goes used is the faint jingle noise heard after all street races.
tuba_024
A cue meant for Level 1, but unused since it is placed in the wrong folder within the files.
Simpsons Hit And Run Level 2 Races 2016
Ice Cream Truck Jingle
Technically, this is not unused - if you cheat the phone booth to spawn in the absent Ice Cream Truck (see above), you can hear this tune that comes out of the truck. Because the truck does not appear normally, it's unlikely the player will ever hear this.
land_of_choc_end_neg
This song plays when the player fails the second part of There's Something About Monty.., except you can't hear it normally because it's impossible to fail the second part of the mission. The previous mission stages are fallible and reuse halls_balls from Milking the Pigs, but not when you have to get to Mr. Burns' office. The reason why the second part isn't failable is because there isn't any condition that you can violate to fail the mission itself and trigger this.
However, if the mission file (m4i.mfk) is viewed with a program such as Notepad++, you can see an unused time limit that the developers commented out by adding '//' to the beginning of the line. If you delete these slashes and then save the file, you can re-enable the timer for this part of the mission. If you let the timer run out, this plays.
The timer was likely dropped because the developers may have thought it was too difficult as it is hard to climb Burns' Office within a short time limit, considering making a mistake usually results in the player having to start over from the beginning of the mission. However, since none of the game's other missions use this song where you can fail, this jingle goes fully unused.
organ_music
A strange unused song that can be heard in Level 7 if the player uses cheats to get outside the map near the Power Plant. The song is a slowed-down radio version of Bach's 'Toccata and Fugue'. This song was intended to play in the Stonecutters' Lounge, but goes unused since the area was cut in development.
scarymusic01
A slowed down, mechanical sounding version of Scott Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag. The song was intended to play in the rooftop garden of the Kwik-E-Mart during Level 7, replacing the song heard in Level 1 and 4. However, in the final game, no music plays on the rooftop garden.
powerplant_10sec
Judging by the name, This song was meant to be played when the timer is under 10 seconds in the mission 'Blind Big Brother' (The music for the mission being titled 'powerplant_main') but for unknown reasons it does not play. It joins together seamlessly with the mission failed theme further proving that it must have meant to be played here.
Stone_Cutter_Spoof
Found in Level 7 if the player uses cheats to get outside the map near the blocked-off bridge. Given the name, this music may have also been intended for the Stonecutters' Hall, since the file name for the track that plays at the Duff Brewery has a similar title (duffbeer_spoof) and that the song resembles the actual Stonecutters' theme song in Homer the Great.
Revisional Differences
To do: Confirm if the Player's Choice GameCube release fixed some of the issues. Also, upload some of the pictures. |
Hit & Run was released on all major platforms at the time, and a couple of minor changes were made to each release.
- The GameCube port seems to be based on an earlier build of the game, as it has some oddities within it:
- Flaming Tires (Level 7's Bonus Mission) is replayable due to what appears to be an oversight. While the red exclamation mark will not appear over Smithers' head, the blue glow underneath his feet will. This oversight is shared in some early copies of the PlayStation 2 version.
- The Hovercar's transparency effect doesn't appear to work properly, causing the windows on the car to not be transparent. This also unintentionally breaks the refraction effect meaning the characters cannot be seen once the car turns invisible.
GameCube | PlayStation 2, Xbox and Windows |
---|
- Evergreen Terror's theme has a hard-to-hear guitar midway that was amplified in other releases:
GameCube | PlayStation 2, Xbox and Windows |
---|
- Various textures had to be scaled down in order to accommodate for the smaller disc space.
GameCube | PlayStation 2, Xbox and Windows |
---|
- The PlayStation 2 and Xbox ports seem to be a bit more complete in comparison to the GameCube one: the Hovercar window issue was fixed, Evergreen Terror now has proper instrumentation, and the Flaming Tires Mission glitch was fixed.
- The PlayStation 2 port, runs at a lower framerate due to weaker hardware (almost less than 30) and this does screw up the physics slightly.
- The Xbox port has a built-in 'widescreen' option that every other version lacked.
- The PC port adds a 'Lemonade Stand' prop in Level 1, re-did the entire HUD and some textures to support higher resolutions, and has the bugfixes that the PlayStation 2 and Xbox ports had.
PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube | Windows |
---|
- However, the PC release is missing several visual enhancements, such as the 'lens flare' effect from the sun seen in Level 1.
PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube | Windows |
---|
- The refraction effect that the Hovercar used in the console releases is missing entirely, resulting in it simply becoming semi-translucent.
GameCube | Windows |
---|
- The 'steering' animations for the player go unused due to what appears to be a technical oversight.
- The Signs outside the School and the Community Center are not random, like in the console version.
PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube | Windows |
---|
PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube | Windows |
---|
- The icon for Snake behind bars from the mission 'Slithery Sleuthing' was changed for the PC release.
